From K13 to Xperience by Kentico: Don’t move house and take the clutter

Picking up all features from an existing website and just making them work in a new platform is often seen as being the simplest approach, but often this method turns out to be anything but simple.
Why this matters now – do the housekeeping you’ve been putting off
Lots of brands are upgrading from Kentico13 to Xperience by Kentico. The temptation is to “lift and shift.” But if you move everything exactly as-is, you also move the old problems: slow pages, messy templates, and one-off hacks.
How can the process be improved?
- Clean first, then move: Treat this like a remodel, not a relocation. Simplify content types, retire dusty features, and keep what actually gets used.
- Faster by design: Optimise images, tidy scripts, and use better caching so pages load quickly on any device.
- Governance that scales: Clear roles, simple approvals, and better handoffs so content goes live safely and on time.
- Privacy by default: Fewer browser tags, smarter tracking, and consent handled in a friendly, transparent way.
Our take
Start with a quick audit: what content and features earn their keep, and what slows you down? What have you been looking to streamline, archive or remove altogether but not had the opportunity to action just yet?
Then pilot a low-risk section, show a before/after on speed and workflows, and use those wins to build momentum. Make the invisible visible – shorter load times, fewer steps to publish, fewer “can you just?” requests piling up.
If you’re moving anyway, refuse to carry debt. Migrate the value, not that clutter—and turn the upgrade into faster pages, simpler workflows, happier teams – and happier users.
